Dispensaries
Licensed retail locations that need compliant non-cash payment options at the counter, clean end-of-day totals, and hardware that works with the POS the state requires them to use.
Payment options that fit cannabis underwriting, plus a plan when holds or terminations hit.
No obligation review Clear explanation of every option and tradeoff

Why operators work with us
Five things we hold ourselves to on every account. They describe how we work — not outcomes we cannot promise and numbers we have not verified.
How we workReal client results will be published as approvals are received and each operator confirms in writing what we may share.
Cannabis, CBD and hemp accounts are the only accounts we work on. We scope by license type, state program and product mix rather than treating every merchant as generic high risk.
Payments have to land inside the software you already run. We plan the connection to your point-of-sale, e-commerce menu and accounting stack before anything goes live.
Payment problems are time-sensitive. When funds are held, a reserve appears or a terminal stops taking payments, you reach a person who already knows your setup.
We read your current statements line by line and show where the cost actually sits — rate, per-item, monthly, equipment and third-party fees — before recommending anything.
Operating across states means different regulators, different retail rules and different payment realities. We keep state-level references current and cite the official source.
Who we work with
Cannabis payments are not one market. What is available to a licensed dispensary is different from a hemp brand, a delivery operator or an ancillary vendor — so we scope each one separately.
Scope your business typeLicensed retail locations that need compliant non-cash payment options at the counter, clean end-of-day totals, and hardware that works with the POS the state requires them to use.
Multiple stores under one operator, where each site was set up differently. We standardize payment methods, fees, hardware and reporting across locations.
Hemp-derived products sit in a different underwriting category than THC. We match your product mix, lab documentation and claims language to processors that will actually keep the account.
Where delivery is licensed and supported, we set up payment at the door or pre-payment before dispatch, with driver-level records that reconcile back to the order.
Online menus, pre-orders and hemp storefronts, where available: checkout flow, gateway behavior, refunds and chargeback handling reviewed before launch, not after.
Software, packaging, equipment, consulting, security and services companies that keep getting misclassified as plant-touching and shut off.
If underwriting turned you down, we look at what triggered it — products, website language, license status, ownership, documentation — and what would need to change.
Accounts closed, frozen, capped or moved to reserve. We help you understand the stated reason, recover what can be recovered, and rebuild with fewer single points of failure.
Payment methods, side by side
Each method below carries a different trade-off in cost, funding speed, customer experience and stability. Best use, main advantage, main limitation and availability are on the card — nothing is hidden behind a hover state.
Best use: Licensed dispensary and retail counters that need a non-cash option at the point of sale.
Main advantage: Cardholder authenticates with a PIN; funds settle to the merchant on the provider's schedule, often next business day.
Main limitation: Needs a PIN pad and a POS flow that fits it. It is not credit card acceptance, and ticket or refund rules can differ.
Availability & risk: Requires a provider whose sponsor institution knowingly supports cannabis merchants. Availability varies by state, license type and underwriting.
Best use: Wholesale and vendor invoices, recurring B2B billing, and consumer pay-by-bank on pre-orders where a provider supports it.
Main advantage: Runs on a bank rail rather than a card network, so card-brand acceptance rules are not the gatekeeper.
Main limitation: Not instant. Returns, authorization records and funding timing have to be handled deliberately.
Availability & risk: Depends on a bank or originator that has knowingly onboarded the business as a marijuana-related business, with enhanced due diligence.
Best use: Pre-orders, delivery and loyalty flows where the customer pays in an app instead of at the door.
Main advantage: Payment records tie back to the order, which makes reconciliation and delivery handoff cleaner.
Main limitation: Customers have to enrol and fund the wallet, so adoption takes work and you depend on one provider's rules.
Availability & risk: Varies by provider and state. Review the funding source, fee structure and what happens to balances if the program changes.
Best use: Every licensed counter today — it remains the fallback when an electronic method is unavailable.
Main advantage: No processor dependency and no chargebacks.
Main limitation: Security, counting, armored carrier and reconciliation costs, plus the basket-size effect of a cash-only checkout.
Availability & risk: Available wherever the sale itself is licensed, but you still need depository banking that accepts cannabis deposits.
Best use: Hemp-derived CBD e-commerce and retail brands whose products are lawful where they sell.
Main advantage: Card acceptance is possible in this underwriting category, which is separate from plant-touching THC.
Main limitation: Marketing claims, product mix and lab documentation are reviewed closely; non-compliant claims are a common cause of closure.
Availability & risk: Each processor's written policy governs what it will accept. Approval is never assumed and can be revisited at any time.
Which methods are available to you depends on your state, license type, product mix and the underwriting policy of the sponsoring bank or processor. Nothing above is a guarantee of approval, card-brand acceptance, or of compliance with state or federal law.
What we set up
Every option below carries trade-offs in cost, funding speed, customer experience and stability. We tell you all four before you sign anything.
Placement with processors and banks whose written underwriting policy covers your license type and products — plus the documentation package that gets reviewed faster.
Bank-to-bank collection for invoices, wholesale, B2B and recurring charges, with return handling and funding timelines explained before you go live.
Counter payment methods where they are legally and operationally supported in your state, including cash-management and terminal workflows that hold up at close.
Scheduled billing for memberships, delivery subscriptions and supplier terms, with dunning rules instead of manual chasing.
A line-by-line read of what you are paying now: markups, reserve terms, monthly minimums, chargeback fees and the clauses that let a processor change them.
One escalation path when funds are held, a reserve appears, or an account is restricted — with the questions to ask and the records to send.
Which methods are available to you depends on your state, license type, product mix and the underwriting policy of the sponsoring bank or processor. Nothing here is a guarantee of approval, card-brand acceptance, or of compliance with state or federal law.
What actually goes wrong
Applications rejected over product photos, health claims, license status, ownership disclosure or missing lab reports — usually fixable, rarely explained.
An account works for months, then stops mid-week with little notice because a sponsor bank changed its risk appetite.
Deposits paused while a risk team reviews volume spikes, ticket size changes or a single flagged transaction.
A rolling or capped reserve withholding a share of your revenue, often without a clear release schedule in writing.
Depository accounts closed or repriced, forcing you to move operating banking and payments at the same time.
Caps on ticket size, monthly volume, refund windows or product categories that quietly limit how you sell.
State reporting, seed-to-sale systems, receipt and disclosure requirements that differ by jurisdiction and change often.
Blended pricing, unexplained line items, PCI charges and month-to-month rate drift with no statement your team can audit.
Payments that never reach your POS, seed-to-sale system or accounting file, so someone rekeys totals every night.
Cash-only checkout that costs you basket size, security overhead and armored-carrier fees.
Integrations
Cannabis operators run on a stack they did not entirely choose — dispensary POS, state seed-to-sale reporting, delivery dispatch, e-commerce menus and accounting. We connect payment records to those systems so daily totals, fees and deposits reconcile without manual entry.
We confirm what your specific platform supports before scoping any integration — we do not list partnerships we have not verified.
Terminal and PIN pad behavior, tender types and end-of-day totals that match the POS your state requires.
Confirmed before we scope itPayment records that line up with the sales your compliance system already reports.
Confirmed before we scope itDeposits, fees and refunds posted to the right accounts instead of rekeyed each night.
Confirmed before we scope itPre-payment or payment at the door with driver-level records that reconcile to the order.
Confirmed before we scope itCheckout, refund and chargeback handling reviewed before launch, where the flow is supported.
Confirmed before we scope itCustomer and loyalty records tied to the payment so marketing does not need a separate export.
Confirmed before we scope itProduct-level detail carried through so payment totals reconcile against stock movement.
Confirmed before we scope itGateway and API work for in-house systems, scoped after we confirm what the platform exposes.
Confirmed before we scope itHow we work
We look at your license type, products, state, current processing statements, software and any decline, hold or termination notices you have received.
You get the payment methods realistically available to you, what each costs, how fast it funds, what could put it at risk — and what we cannot support.
We prepare the underwriting file, coordinate setup and integration, train your staff, and stay on as the contact when something changes.
State coverage
Each published guide covers market context, the business types that operate there, payment and banking considerations, the relevant agencies and official sources — with the date it was last reviewed.
This page is educational information for payment and operations planning. It is not legal, tax, banking or compliance advice, and it is not a statement of what any bank, processor or card network will accept. Cannabis law, state program rules, banking availability and payment products change frequently — sometimes with no notice. Confirm anything that affects a business decision with the official sources linked on this page and with your own attorney and accountant.
Common questions
These are the questions we field most often. Each one links to the full answer with caveats, sources and the date it was last reviewed.
Educational information about payments only. Nothing here is legal, tax or compliance advice, and rules change by state and over time.
Why trust us
Cannabis payments attract inflated claims — guaranteed approval, card-brand acceptance, named bank relationships. We do not make them. Here is what we will publish, and only once it is verified.
Named bios for the people who handle underwriting, integrations and escalations are being published here. Ask us who would own your account and we will tell you before you sign.
About Cannabis Pay HubWe publish results only with written client permission and verified numbers. Our first cannabis case studies are in review, and this space stays empty until they clear.
Case studiesWe list a platform only after we have completed a live integration with it and can name the workflow. Tell us your POS or accounting system and we will confirm what is supported.
IntegrationsNo invented testimonials appear on this site. Reviews and references will be added here as clients approve them, with name and company attached.
